Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE)
An FCE assesses a claimant's current functional capacity to complete specific tasks.
It includes:
reviewing the history
interviewing the claimant
observing the claimant undertaking specific tasks (often work related)
conducting a variety of measurements whilst the claimant performs the specific duties/task
Aim of FCE:
match claimants capabilities to specific work tasks
identify a maximum level of functional performance which acts as a point to build rehabilitation
assist rehabilitation planning and implementation
enhance objectivity in the rehabilitation and return to work process
determine occupational functional ability of the claimant to perform tasks and safely return to work
